The Clearing List Builder
Answer a few questions about your record and what you're looking for, and you'll get an initial working list of 36 colleges — 9 safeties, 18 targets, and 9 reaches — built from recently published admissions data. It takes about three minutes and provides a useful starting point from which to begin the real work of the college admissions planning process.

These schools are drawn from data — scores, admit rates, size, region. What data can't tell you is where you'll actually be happy. That takes a longer conversation about who you are and what you need from the next four years.

Categories and percentages are estimates modeled from recently published admissions data (mid-50% test ranges, average GPAs, and overall admit rates) and are for planning purposes only — they are not predictions or guarantees of admission. Selectivity shifts year to year, individual outcomes depend on essays, recommendations, activities, and institutional priorities, and public universities are often substantially harder to enter from out of state. Tuition figures are approximate published sticker prices and do not reflect financial aid or merit scholarships; actual net cost is often much lower and varies by family. Income-based "typically pay" figures are modeled estimates from the shape of published net-price averages, not school-reported data for that institution; only a school's own net price calculator or aid office can state what a particular family will pay. "Meets full demonstrated need" reflects each school's stated aid policy. The University of California and California State systems do not consider SAT or ACT scores. Federal service academies are tuition-free with a post-graduation service commitment, and admission requires a nomination (usually congressional), fitness testing, and medical qualification — steps this tool cannot model. Conservatories, music schools, and art and design schools admit primarily on portfolios and auditions, which this tool cannot evaluate — their placement here reflects published admit rates only, and applicants should plan portfolio and audition preparation on each school's own timeline. © Clearing College Bound Counseling.
